SERJ TANKIAN Raises 'The Dead' With Arrival Of First Solo Effort
October 23, 2007The Pulse of Radio reports: SYSTEM OF A DOWN vocalist Serj Tankian steps out on his own Tuesday (October 23) with the arrival of his first solo album, "Elect The Dead". Tankian says that the CD is the result of years of songwriting, during which the singer composed everything from film music to punk to electronic music. He told The Pulse of Radio how he whittled that down to the dozen tracks on "Elect The Dead". "I've got hundreds and hundreds of songs that I've written over time," he said. "I've got so much music and, you know, I picked songs that best reflected the classic songwriting style that I've kind of been growing into as a songwriter over the years, and kind of arranged those to make 'Elect The Dead'."
"Elect The Dead" is the first new release from a member of SYSTEM OF A DOWN since the band went on hiatus in the fall of 2006.
Although Tankian played most of the instruments on the record himself, SYSTEM OF A DOWN drummer John Dolmayan contributed to a few songs.
Dolmayan is also in a new band called SCARS ON BROADWAY with SYSTEM guitarist Daron Malakian.
Tankian is already out on the road in support of "Elect the Dead", playing Thursday night (October 25) in Las Vegas.
Tankian and his backing band, the FCC, will head to the U.K. early next month to open for FOO FIGHTERS.
